As to their action, the taper of MOG Rods have been built according to a project that over time involved two persons. The first one is Gabriele Gori who is an engineer and IBRA President, but, most importantly, he has great knowledge in planning modern tapers, and with whom I had the opportunity to collaborate intensively. The second one is Claudio Biagi, in my opinion one of the most gifted young "caster", in Italy and abroad, and rodmaker, who accurately tested the tapers and helped to achieve the final results.
The choice of using proprietary tapers does not implies overlooking the importance of the taper who made the history of rodmaking and that still today hundreds of rodmakers use and build. It is rather the drive to build rods that are as far as possible apt to the evolution over time and suitable for modern needs of fly fishing.
MOG rods are built without shortcuts, using to most well established techniques, together with the most modern materials: glue and varniss are the same used for building wooden boats for which the shipyards in the Gulf of Naples are worldwide famous, capable to launch vessels apt to sail the most difficult waters. The components used are from the best known producers: CSE, Snake Brand, REC, Bellinger. Silk threads, corks from Sardinia and, of course, Arundinaria Amabilis of the best quality.
All the rods can be built in two or three sections and come with two twins tips.
All the rods are hollow and built according to the Hollow Fluted method (HF).
The rods of all the series are flamed according to the "Catta" pattern.

HEXAGONAL RODS

Series "FAST PROGRESSIVE"

This type of blank design used in building the rod creates a fast tip with a remarkable reserve of power, due to the structure of the rod that under stress can still bend in an elastic way, allowing to manage quite long casts - with an increase of mass on the tip top - and, in the fight with the fish phase, to endure with great advantage because of its distributed elastic reserve.
This series of rod has Rice's silk threads of Jasper Black and Orange colors.

"Southern Ontario"

Although belonging to the general series of Progressive Fast action rods, these rods named "Southern Ontario" were born some years ago following a request from a customer in Toronto asking for a rod with line 6, suitable for a ample range of uses and for the Southern Ontario waters. The result was a rod capable of fishing trout and graylings of the Grand River as well as steelheads of British Columbia.
The name of this series was given directly by the young owner for whom the first rod had been built.
This series of rod has YLI's silk threads of Goldenrod colors.

SERIES "DRY FLY"

A type of rod rigid in 3/4 of their length and elastic and fast in the tip: rods with a typical tip action, or as they would say on the other side of the Atlantic, very Fast Dry Fly Action.
They have been designed and built having in mind the type of "Italian" casting, with light lines and fast action allowing fishing in very difficult conditions, where a fast and reactive rod can solve situations otherwise impossible.
This series of rod has Rice's silk threads of Jasper Black and White color.

SERIES "PARABOLIC"

The type of blank design of this rod - the type descending from Ritz, Young and Payne rods from mid-last century - originates a rod that is capable to bend the tip in an elastic way even with a relatively small mass applied to the tip even with a relatively little mass applied to the tip top, thus allowing to fish by keeping control also at short distance. It also provides a central resistance when under stress, and transfers energy to the butt that heavily stressed react and bends. Hence the rod, for its very structure, can support and cast very long lines with heavy flies. A type of rod for large rivers and large preys.
The system also exploits the weight of the bamboo that with its pendular action stresses the material in the butt area forcing it to bend.

Because of this "autonomy" in casting, typical of parabolic action rods, this rods are not in favor of fly fishers of the new generations, nevertheless they are rods to be used in a wide range of siatuations with great effectiveness.
The name of this series, The Lady of the River, can be understood and appreciated when casting and fishing with one of these rods. Its action, slow and sharp at the same time, made me think of an elegant lady I saw many years ago: she was walking along the bank of the river Avon, completely absorbed in her thoughts she walked slowly and gracefully.
This series of rod has YLI's silk threads of Highland Green color.

QUAD RODS

This group of rods is not a mere quadrate version of some of the hexagonal rods described above, but they originate from the independent studies carried out for building some quadrate section rods.
In the next months, very likely some more types of quadrate rods will be added.
The series "Quad" is built in with 2 sections only.
